Debit card transaction volumes increased around 4% month-on-month in June 2026, even as transaction value fell 5% from May, according to RBI data analysed by 1Lattice. On an annual basis, debit cards remained under pressure, with volume down 9% YoY and value contracting 5%, reflecting a continued shift toward alternative digital payment modes. ATM withdrawals continued to dominate debit card activity, accounting for 80.4% of volume. Credit cards, meanwhile, saw a marginal sequential moderation, with volume down 3% and value down 1% month-on-month. However, YoY growth remained strong at 25% in volume and 10% in value, underscoring sustained strength in consumer credit spending.
